1. Create Your Profile & Add an Item

After creating an account and choosing a username, users are directed to their Profile page. To build trust and transparency within the community, they should complete all profile information and upload at least 4 photos.

To start using Giftsy, each user must add at least 1 item. This helps them learn how the listing process works and shows they are ready to share with others.

When adding an item, users must follow these steps:

Step 1: Select the category
Choose the category that best matches the item.

Step 2: Upload visuals
Upload photos or videos of the item. At least two photos are required. Clear visuals help others understand the item’s condition, style, and details.

Step 3: Describe the item
Fill in the item details, including:

  • Title

  • Style

  • Color

  • Brand name (you can add a new brand by clicking “Add Brand”)

  • Original price

  • Condition

  • Description

The Style field becomes available only after selecting a category, ensuring the correct options are shown for that type of item.

Step 4: Select the size
Choose the appropriate size for your item. Size options will appear based on the category selected.

Once all steps are completed, you can save your listing and make it available to the community.

 

2. Browse & Discover

Once your profile is complete and your first item is listed, you can explore items shared by others across the platform.

Browse by category, size, and style to discover items that fit you best.

If you are a new user and want to request a gift or send an exchange offer, you must first complete your shipping address. Giftsy uses the Shippo API to support shipping and calculate shipping costs.

For exchanges, both users must complete their shipping address before shipping costs can be calculated.

To help prevent errors:

  • Enter your street address in Street 1
  • Enter your unit, apartment, or suite number in Street 2

Because the Shippo API is sensitive to address formatting, following these instructions will help the shipping process work more smoothly.

 

3. Gifting & Storytelling

 

If you love an item listed as a gift, click “Request as a Gift” and write a short message explaining why you would like to receive it.

If you are a new user, you will be asked to add your shipping information before you send a request, so that Giftsy can calculate the shipping label fee after your request is accepted.

 

 

4. Exchange Items

 

You can also request items through exchange.

 

When you find items you like (you may select multiple items), send an exchange offer and choose items from your own virtual closet to propose in return.

 

You can also choose how many items the other user may select from your items.

 

Fairness and generosity are at the heart of every exchange.

 

If you are a new user, you will be asked to add your shipping information before you send an exchange request, so that Giftsy can calculate the shipping label fee after your request is accepted.

 

 

5. Shipping & Delivery

 

Once a gift or exchange is accepted:

 

  • a shipping label can be generated through Giftsy,
  • the sender prints the label, packages the item, and ships it,
  • both users receive notifications and can track delivery through the website.

 

Users may also arrange shipping independently using an external shipping service if they prefer.

 

 

6. Complete & Celebrate

 

Mark your item as “Sent” or “Received” to complete the reuse cycle.

 

Celebrate small acts of generosity by sharing your experience with the community or tagging Giftsy on social media.

After you click the “Done” button, you will be taken to the History page, where you can review and send 1 to 3 karma points to the other user to recognize their generosity.

 

 

Community Standards

 

Giftsy runs on kindness, accountability, and trust.

Here is what we expect from every member:

 

  • Send your item within 7 days after accepting a gift or exchange request.
  • Be honest in your listings — accurate photos and clear condition descriptions matter.
  • If you receive items regularly, please also offer items when you can.
  • No ghosting. If you stop responding after engaging in a request or offer, your account may be flagged.
  • Users who repeatedly fail to send items or misuse the platform may be reported. Community members may also share repeat issues in our community alert thread.

Personal Use Only Policy

 

Items requested through Giftsy must be for personal use only.

Do not request items with the intention of reselling, flipping, or using them for commercial purposes.

The Giftsy platform may not be used to acquire items for resale, inventory building, or profit generation.

Giftsy exists to encourage reuse, generosity, and community connection — not commercial trade.

Accounts found misusing the platform for selling or profit-driven activity may be suspended or removed.
